The Person In Charge |
Merebrook LLC is run by Jonathan Cole, PLS, Missouri license number 2010000243. I have been a land surveyor since 1997, working in the states of Colorado, New York and Missouri, and licensed in Missouri since 2010. The variety of projects and states that I have worked in gives me a broad perspective and a large skill set to be able to perform work and solve problems for my clients as they arise.
Formal Education
Land surveying is traditionally a profession that is learned through self-study and mentorship with much on-the-job training and I am no exception. As technology and the expectations of clients have changed, I have striven to continue learning through self-study, numerous seminars provided by state land surveyor associations, and formal education at institutions of higher education. My formal education includes an Associate of Science in Electrical Engineering earned through Greater New Haven State Technical College in North Haven, Connecticut, several land survey classes through Metropolitan Community College, Longview Campus, in Lee's Summit, Missouri, and a Bachelor in Arts degree in Geography with a specialization in Geographic Information Systems from the University of Missouri, Columbia.

Other Jobs I Have Known
Like most surveyors, I did not begin my adult life as a land surveyor. Most of us fall into the job, rather than knowing about land surveying as a high school student. This search for a career that fits me has led to much useful experience that is not in the realm of land surveying. I have also been a bicycle and moped mechanic, stage carpenter, stage sound technician, stage lighting technician, home re-modeler, field engineering technician for a power company, chairlift operator and line boss for a ski area, snowcat operator and carpenter. This broad range of past jobs serves me well to work with clients, understanding what is needed to communicate with clients and get the job done.
Professional Organizations I Am Now A Member Of
Other Organizations I Have Known
In addition to paying work, I have had a broad range of life experiences and participation with organizations. I am an Eagle Scout, I hiked the full length of the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine (2,153 miles), and I have toured 43 states so far, by car or on foot. I am a member of Gamma Theta Upsilon, GTU, Geography National Honor Society. I have an Amateur Extra Class ham radio license granted by the FCC (N0OFJ) and I have been active in several amateur radio clubs, including as a liaison between Joint Communications for Boone County, Missouri, (the 911 call center) and Boone County Amateur Radio Service, and as a Volunteer Examiner, administering ham radio license exams. Additionally, I am the President of the Central Chapter of the Missouri Society of Professional Land Surveyors.
